About Me

I am a certified executive coach through The George Washington University's International Coaching Federation (ICF) accredited e-Co Leadership Coaching Certification Program. I got into coaching after I myself had an executive coach. Through my career, I developed a passion for helping others. I am a public servant and I now use what has been taught to me, and my personal experiences, to coach others.

For my day job, I am the Senior Deputy Director and Chief Strategy Officer for the District of Columbia Department of Employment Services (DOES). As Senior Deputy Director, I oversee the Office of Youth Programs, Office of Labor Market Research and Performance, and Office of Training and Professional Development. Prior to this position, I was Deputy Chief of Staff for DOES, where I oversaw the Office of Legislative Affairs and helped to coordinate agency-wide events while also assisting our Director in preparation for meetings, coordination of strategic goals, and ensuring efficient and effective delivery of DOES programs and services.  Additionally, I regularly connect with constituents to ensure their needs are being met, lead organizational change, manage special projects, plan and coordinate events, and enhance internal efficiencies by leading process improvement initiatives. Previously, I worked in the Office of the City Administrator where I oversaw the Deputy Mayor for Education and the Deputy Mayor for Greater Economic Opportunity clusters. Prior to that, I worked as the Director of Operations in the Mayor’s Office of Talent and Appointments.

I am a Ward 7 resident of the District of Columbia. I earned my Master of Public Administration from American University, with a concentration in State and Local Government.  I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. I grew up in North Carolina and love running, working out, and playing tennis.

What is Executive Coaching?

Business and organizational leaders, managers, professionals and individuals engage coaches to advance their careers and enhance their personal lives. But what actually is coaching?

The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as partnering in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires a person to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership.

When you work with a coach, you set out on a path to greater personal and professional fulfillment.

Coaching is not the same thing as mentoring or therapy. A mentor provides subject matter expertise, wisdom and guidance based on their own experiences. Therapy deals with healing pain, trauma, dysfunction or conflict of some kind, typically with the goal of resolving difficulties that impair an individual’s emotional health and psychological functioning.

By contrast, coaching focuses on facilitating individuals or groups to draw upon their own experiences and capabilities to set and reach their own objectives. The coach is the expert in the coaching process, but you are the expert on your life journey.
